FoodWal is a collaborative portfolio that strengthens food innovation in Wallonia. Supported by the Walloon Public Service as part of the Win4Excellence program, the FoodWal portfolio federates Belgium's five French-speaking universities and four Walloon accredited research centers around three innovative projects : MICROBoost, PEPTIBoost and PROTEBoost.

 

MICROBoost

This project develops sustainable innovations using the microbiome to improve food quality, including the development of new microbiotics and digital tools for personalized nutrition. It also assesses the impact of microbiotics on human and animal health.

 

PEPTIBoost

This project develops innovative methods for producing and characterizing original bioactive peptides from protein by-products. It evaluates and predicts the health effects of these peptides using in vitro, in vivo and in silico approaches.

 

PROTEBoost

This project aims to produce microbial proteins from food by-products and optimize processes while preserving the nutritional quality of the biomass. It also formulates attractive, healthy and sustainable food products and develops digital tools for process optimization, including life-cycle analysis.

 
Thanks to this unique synergy, FoodWal strengthens the Walloon economic fabric and positions the Region as a key player in innovation in the agri-food sector.
